About

I hold a master’s degree in Chemical/Petrochemical Synthesis and the Cambridge TKT Certificate in Classroom Management. I have been tutoring for over fifteen years and have a proven track record of helping students (year 6 - A-levels) prepare for and pass admission tests to private/public UK secondary schools, secondary qualifications (I/GCSE), IB and AS/A-levels qualifications, as well as improving their general academic performance and building confidence. I am proficient at evaluating students learning needs, formulating learning goals, and creating, tailoring, implementing and adjusting curriculum or focusing existing curricula differently based on ongoing formal/informal assessments. I am attentive and flexible to students' learning patterns, and encourage critical/independent thinking and questioning to motivate active participation and foster a collaborative learning environment. My approach blends academic diligence, and a balance of stringency and empathy; these together with my knowledge and experience in classroom management gradually builds resourcefulness and a sense of responsibility in students, which empowers and guides them to achieving their academic and personal goals.

Teaching methods

  • Teacher-centred instruction: I use this approach to introduce and familiarise students with fundamental ideas/principles when discussing new topics.
  • Learner-centred method: I encourage problem-solving and discussions, and use student’s responses to direct the lesson to address any challenges that surface from the discussions as we move towards the overall learning objectives.
  • Inquiry-based learning: I use questions and crafted problems together with encouraging students to verbalize their reasoning to guide them towards understanding and applying what they have learnt, and/or drawing inferences/conceptualizing the ideas being discussed.
  • Content-focused method: I use elements of this method to prepare students for assessments where students have to adhere to strict/structured responses in which keywords are required to gain marks or in which sequence of working must include specific steps , e.g. techniques for exams/tests, mark scheme analysis, etc.
