About

I am a former student of the classes préparatoires (French preparatory classes). I qualified for the oral stage without being admitted (sous-admissible) to the entrance examination of the Ecole Normale Supérieure de Lyon, which earned me a dual bachelor's degree in Philosophy/Geography (Sorbonne Paris IV). I then studied a Master's 1 in Philosophy and Social Sciences at the Ecole Normale Supérieure d'Ulm and the Ecole des hautes études en sciences sociales (EHESS), before pursuing a Master's 2 in Social Anthropology (Nanterre Paris X). I recently obtained a PhD in Social Anthropology from the University of Aberdeen. I publish empirical and theoretical work in social science journals in French and in English. I have presented my writing and research work on numerous occasions, at the Ecole de Rome (Villa Médicis) or at the Association of Social Anthropologists (ASA) of the United Kingdom.

Teaching experience

I taught at all levels in secondary school (lycée) for 4 years. I was in charge of tutoring struggling students at the private secondary school Edgar Poe in Paris, where I took charge of philosophy and French classes, as well as covering for absent teachers in these same subjects. I then taught undergraduate students at university: at Nanterre after my Master's degree, and at the University of Aberdeen in the United Kingdom as a teaching assistant during my PhD, and as a temporary teaching associate after my PhD (I was in charge of undergraduate tutorials in social anthropology and sociology from first to third year of the Bachelor's degree, as well as lectures on social science research methods).

Teaching methods

I believe that philosophy, which seems very difficult to beginners, can be understood through everyday concepts, words, and examples: that starting from seemingly simple examples, one can raise important problems. As a result, I adapt my approach according to the students' interests, focusing on the structure of the argument: with simple ideas, students can express very complicated problems! In practice, I focus on the methodology of the dissertation and text commentary, as well as on writing skills, with the idea that grades are the primary factor of motivation. I hope in this way to awaken a passion for reading philosophical texts!

My students, with varied profiles, have shown clear progress, whatever their initial difficulties: one of them, struggling considerably with an average of around 4/20 in philosophy, achieved a score of 11/20 in the baccalauréat, which allowed him to move on! Another, excellent in all subjects but disappointed with her grades which she found too low, went from a score of 14/20 to 19/20 in a few lessons.
