Computer science, English, and math tutor/instructor with 3 years of experience
About
Hi, I'm Sam! I've been living and working in San Francisco for the past 7 years. I completed a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science in 2015 and have worked as a software engineer with a focus on full-stack web development for over 6 years since then. I have over a year of experience teaching web development skills for a coding bootcamp and three years of experience tutoring online. I also completed Associate's Degrees in English and Women's Studies in 2025, including experience helping college students while working at the campus Women's Resource Center and teaching sexual health as a paid peer educator.
I currently split my time between a library page position at the SF Public Library's Main Youth Centers, facilitating Dungeons & Dragons events for children at Dogpatch Games, and tutoring children and adults professionally (mostly in computer science, programming, and web development) online. I also recently was an instructor for Black Girls Code's 2026 summer camp teaching coding, game development, DEI fundamentals, and leadership skills. I love teaching and helping students learn the skills they need to accomplish their goals!

Teaching methods
I'm very passionate about making learning accessible for my students. I have mostly worked with high schoolers, college students, and adult learners, but I also have experience teaching middle schoolers and working with children ages 6-12. I believe I can help students of all ages understand the material they're trying to learn. I have worked with students who don't speak English as their native language, students with disabilities (including, ADHD, autism, and learning disabilities such as dyslexia), and students juggling jobs and family responsibilies as well as school, so I know how to support students with a variety of challenges.
Even if it takes some time for a student to understand certain concepts, I am patient with them and try to be encouraging no matter what. I want to answer all of the questions students have so they have a deep and complete understanding of the material.

"The master's tools will never dismantle the master's house. They may allow us temporarily to beat him at his own game, but they will never enable us to bring about genuine change. And this fact is only threatening to those women who still define the master’s house as their only source of support."
