SciencesPo Paris and King’s College Bachelor Student
About
My name is Marilou and I am a 20 years old french student. I am currently completing my bachelor in Social Sciences at SciencesPo Paris with an exchange year at King’s College London. My fields of interest are philosophy, history and sociology but I followed the Mathematics and Social & Economic Sciences as specialties during (french) high school, which allows me to be competent on a wide range of teaching subjects. I am fluent in English and French, so I can teach in both languages :) I am open to online as well as in person sessions (in London for the 2026/2027 academic year). As a teacher I am organized and attentive.

Teaching experience
I have four years of experience as a private tutor. As I was in second year of high school, the direction introduced an inter-student help program within the establishment and contacted students to serve as teachers. I immediately loved it and even considered teaching as a future carrer as a result of this experience. Although I later decided on a different career path my love for teaching never left which is why during my first two years of university I joined the association AFEV which seeks to fights socio-educational inequalities. As a volunteer I did private tutoring, three times a week, for children (middle and high schoolers) from disadvantaged backgrounds.
Teaching methods
From my experience as a private tutor I believe that the best method is to first decide, always with the student, on the trajectory of the teaching sessions. It sets clear goals and helps both myself and the student to follow a coherent trajectory overtime.
1. Assessing the level required : reviewing with the student what is expected of her/him
2. Assessing the student’s level : knowledge on the subject & her/his depth of understanding of the theories/concepts
3. Accordingly deciding on the content of the sessions : that means making a list with the student of everything to be learned, reviewed and practiced
Once this is done, and it can be done anytime it feels necessary, either for clarity or when there is a change of level, expectations, school material ect… I organize my sessions with the following structure :
1. Reviewing what has been done in class : asking the student to explain to me what she/he has learned with his/her own words. If need be, I step in to add clarifications or additional knowledge.
2. Method & Exercises : First reviewing in depth the method (maybe the most crucial part) then doing the exercises given by the teacher or designed by myself. The exercises I design are always meant to be the closest possible to what the exam will be.
3. Correction : asking the student to explain the reflexion behind the resolution of the exercise. This is important as it allows the student to understand what specific tools/methods she/he has used and why.
In conclusion the key to a lasting and effective teaching method is to make sure the student understands the method : both of the work that I and they are doing together and of the school exams. Learning is essential, but understanding allows the student to, first never forget, and secondly, combine his skills (across subjects and overtime).

Getting to know him
My favorite quote is attributed to Octavian as he is on his death bed : « La comédie est terminée. Si la pièce vous a plus, applaudissez » or in Latin « Acta est Fabula » which means « The comedy is over. If you enjoyed the play, applaud. » In Roman Antiquity this locution was used to signal to the spectators the end of a play, but in the mouth of Octavian there were meant to cynically reveal the emperor’s lucidity about his own role : his reign, and his court were always only a question of performance. I came across this quote while reading Les Enfants d’Alexandrie from Françoise Chandernagor (I recommend heartily) and it has stayed with me since then.
