Student at ESSEC, academic support

About

I am Louise, a 21-year-old student at ESSEC Business School, where I am currently enrolled in the Grande École Program (Master in Management) on the Singapore campus.
I have always loved sharing knowledge and helping others in their learning. At Lycée Sainte-Marie de Neuilly, where I studied Mathematics, SES (Social and Economic Sciences), and Geopolitics as my specialties, I started giving private lessons and homework help to a brother and sister who were then in 8th and 7th grade (French system: 4ème and 5ème). This first experience taught me a lot about the importance of adapting to each student's pace, difficulties, and personality.
I then joined the Economics-Management Bachelor's program at the Université Catholique de Lille, in a selective track, where I continued sharing my knowledge. In particular, I supported a class of six first-year students in English, economics, and mathematics. This experience allowed me to develop a more structured approach, while also learning to explain sometimes complex concepts simply.
Beyond my academic experiences, I also spent 8 years in scouting, notably as a team leader. This gave me experience supervising young people, motivating them, listening to them, and helping them progress. I have also worked as an au pair and practiced many sports activities: 10 years of dance, club volleyball, and running. These experiences strengthened my patience, my sense of responsibility, and my taste for teamwork.
I also had the opportunity to study and live for 6 months in Brazil, an experience that brought me a lot on a personal level and strengthened my independence and my ability to adapt to new environments.
I am a patient, dynamic person who listens well. For me, a good private lesson is not just about explaining an exercise: the main goal is to allow the student to truly understand what they are doing, regain confidence in their abilities, and gradually become independent.

Teaching methods

I always start a lesson with a short conversation with the student in order to understand where they stand: I check what they have retained from their class, the concepts they master, and those that remain difficult. This allows me to immediately adapt the content and pace of the session to their needs.
I then focus on understanding the concepts before moving on to exercises. I explain difficult points with concrete examples and, when possible, everyday situations, so that the student does not just learn a method by heart but truly understands the logic behind it.
Once the concepts are mastered, we move on to practice with progressive exercises: first exercises to check that the lesson is understood, then more complex exercises and, when relevant, past exam papers or test subjects. I let the student search on their own as much as possible, while stepping in when they get stuck to give them hints rather than simply giving them the answer.
I adapt a lot to the student's profile: some need more explanations and examples, while others progress mainly through practice. I therefore try to find the right balance between explanations, discussion, and exercises.
Finally, I usually end the lesson with a recap of the essential concepts. We review together what has been understood, any mistakes to remember, and the points to revisit before the next lesson.
