Bachelor Student at ESSEC Business School, Native French and bilingual in English, Graduated with highest honours from the International French Baccalaureate

About

Hi!
My name is Li-Lou, I am native French and Cambodian, and I'm a Dean's List Student at ESSEC Business School as a Global Bachelor in Business Administration student. I have lived in France most of my life and in the USA for my sophomore year of high school as I decided to study abroad for a year. I am now fully bilingual and able to teach students in both French and English !
I am a serious, perverant and hard working student as I have graduated with the highest honours from the BFI (International French Baccalaureate) program.

The reason why I'd like to teach French and English is because they both feel like a part of who I am; French is not just my native language, it’s also a way for me to share culture, history, and identity with others. English, on the other hand, has always been my bridge to the world. I needed it to communicate with my Cambodian family, since my mom fled Cambodia when she was ten and lost her ability to speak her mother tongue. Over time, English became a way to stay connected to my roots, while also opening me to literature, debates, and global perspectives.

Teaching these two subjects together makes sense to me, because they’re both about communication, storytelling, and opening doors to new worlds. I want to help students not only master the languages, but also discover the cultures, histories, and identities that come with them.

Teaching experience

I first started tutoring at my previous middlde school as an English tutor in highschool, where I helped students write essays, proof-read their work, fix grammar mistakes, and better understand lessons. I also closely followed three primary school students from France, supporting them with their English homework, from writing short essays to practicing reading comprehension and building vocabulary. In addition, since my younger brother is in the same program as I was, I would regularly help him with his homework and proof-read his work, which strengthened my ability to explain lessons clearly and adapt to different learning needs.

Why I Teach:
Teaching has always felt natural to me. I enjoy breaking down complex ideas into something clear and accessible, and I find it rewarding to see students grow more confident in their skills. What motivates me most is watching people realize their potential and succeed. I also love making myself useful in any way I can, because helping others learn and thrive feels meaningful and deeply rewarding.

Teaching methods

I’m a very patient, organized, and encouraging person which is reflected in the way I study and teach. My goal is to make learning engaging, build confidence, and help students reach their goals without stress. My lessons are flexible and personalized: I mix explanations, practical exercises, and exam strategies so students not only learn but feel confident using what they know! I feel confident teaching new languages, helping students with their homework by guiding them step-by-step to understand concepts rather than just giving answers, and even supporting younger learners with the basics: such as learning how to read and write. For teachings children new languages, I focus on making learning dynamic and practical. I use a progressive and practical approach in teaching languages inspired by the official recommendations of the French Ministry of Education. This begins with the very basics: learning the alphabet, the correct pronunciation of each letter, and how sounds combine to form simple words. From there, I move on to oral activities before introducing writing, focusing on vocabulary that comes from real-life situations such as greeting people, ordering food, or asking for directions. I use visuals, repetition, and short conversations to help students link images and sounds naturally, as well as regular review sessions to reinforce what they’ve learned.
When helping children learn to read, I like to start by revisiting the foundations by making sure they fully understand and recognize the sounds behind each letter or syllable before moving on to full sentences. I use fun and interactive methods such as sound games, where the child identifies the sound they hear in a word, syllable cards to practice reading and combining syllables and rhyme games to help them notice patterns between words.
As I am a college student, my range goes from primary school to high school. I used to teach students in the same program as I was, in both French and/or English.

Favourite quote
“

Better have remorse than regrets.” To me, it means that it’s better to try, make mistakes, and learn from them than to never take the chance at all. I believe every opportunity, no matter how small, can lead to growth, and that progress comes from courage, not perfection. And that's what I aim to do with tutoring and bring that same mindset.
I love giving my all in everything I do and staying open to new opportunities and ideas. Whether we’re learning a new language, tackling homework, or building confidence step by step, I want my students to feel motivated, supported, and excited to see what they’re capable of. Learning should feel like an adventure, and I’m here to make sure it’s a positive one!
