Subjects feels difficult only when they're taught poorly

About

I am Leandro, I have a master in Electrical Engineer and I work for an energy company. In my free time, I like to give lessons because I find extreme joy from seeing students understanding the subjects I have struggled to understand in the past. When I decided to start studying Electrical Engineer, I know it was a difficult path because during high school I focused more on languages and learn English, French and Spanish. As I didn't study enough scientific subjects during high school, I struggled to fill the knowledge gaps in scientific topics (maths and physics mainly), but I committed because I was determined to succeed. Now, after having been through the process, I have developed skills that I want to teach to students to ease their path and maybe inspire someone to embrace the fabolous world of scientific subjects. For me, this feels like a mission. Of course not everybody can become a scientist or an engineer, but my mission is to show that scientific subjects can be fun and that they constitute the foundation of our technologic society. Knowing scientific subjects is a way of understanding the world and to avoid beeing left behind. Every kind of job requires to understand maths, physics and other scientific subjects. Maybe we don't solve equations everyday, but we calculate percentages, read charts, open mortgages, invest money and make decisions based on maths skills. I think that the people who have a good understanding of scientific topics are also better citizes, even if they end up doing jobs that don't require daily use of numbers and equations (lawyers, plumbers, shop assistants, etc). So, in the end, my goal is to improve our society through knowledge, and the best way to do it is helping students, which are future citizens.

Teaching methods

My teaching method starts with creating a comfortable environment where students feel free to ask any question without fear of being judged. I’m patient, I repeat concepts as many times as needed, and my goal is always that the student ends the lesson with a clearer understanding than at the beginning. After many years of experience, I'm able to tell when a student tells me he/she understood but it not true. In these case, I stop and use other words or examples to make the student understand, but without making he/she feel bad. I mainly teach maths, physics, statistics and science to students aged 12–17 generally from Italian, French and English‑speaking schools.
