Experienced international IB/MYP Science educator with 15 years of IB experience, specializing in MYP Science, IA/EE/Personal Project support, and learning support for students with diverse learning needs.
About
Hi! I’m Jeannette, an experienced international educator and middle school specialist with 17 years of teaching experience, including 15 years working within the IB. I specialize in MYP Science and particularly enjoy working with middle school students as they build the academic skills, confidence, and independence they need to succeed.
My international teaching experience includes Luanda International School in Angola (4 years), where I served as an MYP Science Educator and Year Level Leader; Lincoln Community School in Ghana (6 years); Colegio Roosevelt in Peru (3 years); International School Myanmar; and Escuela Internacional Sampedrana in Honduras. I have taught and supported diverse learners across MYP and international-school programs.
I hold a Master’s degree in Education and a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Biology from the University of Washington. I am currently completing a Graduate Certificate in Special Education through the University of Colorado Boulder and also hold a STEAM teaching certificate. My experience includes MYP Science, learning support, differentiation, and mentoring students through IB Internal Assessments, MYP Personal Projects, and Extended Essays.
I especially enjoy working with students who are bright and capable but feel overwhelmed, disorganized, or unsure where to begin. I break complex concepts and large assignments into manageable steps using scaffolding, visual models, real-world examples, hands-on activities, and organizational strategies to build understanding and confidence.
My teaching style is energetic, encouraging, and relationship-first. I believe students learn best when lessons are adapted to how they learn—not the other way around. One of my favorite moments is when a student goes from “I can’t do this” to “Wait…I actually can!” That is what I hope to create in every tutoring session: meaningful learning, growing confidence, and the tools students need to become successful, independent learners.

Teaching methods
My approach is student-centered, relationship-first, and highly adaptable. I begin by getting to know how a student learns, what they understand, where they are stuck, and what builds their confidence. From there, I adapt each lesson to meet their individual needs and learning style.
For example, if an MYP Science student understands the content but struggles with a lab report, I might break it into smaller steps, model a section, or use a visual checklist and sentence starters. For students who struggle with complex concepts, I use visuals, models, real-world examples, demonstrations, and hands-on activities to make learning more accessible and meaningful.
For IB students working on an IA, EE, or Personal Project, I break overwhelming assignments into manageable milestones while helping them build organization, confidence, and independence. I also celebrate progress along the way, because those little “I get it!” moments matter!
My goal is for students to leave each session feeling more confident, capable, and ready to say, “I can do this!”
