Teaching methods
I am passionate about helping students understand how the past shaped the present, why history matters to everyone, and how to interpret its meaning and express that interpretation clearly in writing. Our lessons will be tailored to your specific needs and interests, striving to make the subject you're required to learn feel connected to your everyday experience and the things you care most about. While improving test scores and writing skills is important, only when you master the specific competencies that a course, diploma program, or exam requires will you be able to perform at your best academically.
My teaching centers on asking thoughtful questions, directing active discussion, and providing constructive feedback. Drawing on the Socratic method and Oxford tutorial model, I encourage students to explore ideas, examine their assumptions, and develop arguments of their own. Whether we're closely reading a text or primary source, unpacking a challenging concept, strengthening an essay, or preparing for an exam, I'll help you develop skills and knowledge you can use independently in and out of the classroom.
